Patti Sue Edwards of Wewoka died of heart failure after a long and heroic battle with Parkinson’s disease. Patti ended this life on July 27 at The Heart Hospital of Oklahoma at Mercy in Oklahoma City. Her children were at her bedside.
Patti Sue was born at home in Sasakwa, Oklahoma, November 11, 1941, the third child of Wiley and Elleen (Greer) Jones. Patti lived her entire life in Seminole County. She graduated Valedictorian with the class of 1959 from Douglass High School of Wewoka. She attended St. Mary of the Plains College at Dodge City, Kansas, and St. Joseph School of Nursing at Wichita. married Boyze C. Edwards. They were later divorced.
She graduated from St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Oklahoma City in 1966. In 1961 she married Boyze C. Edwards. They were later divorced.

Patti’s entire nursing career was devoted to the communities of Wewoka and Seminole where she worked as a registered nurse in the old hospitals. After more than thirty years of working in positions of staff nurse, head nurse, director of nursing, and director of surgery and emergency services she retired from the now Seminole Integris Hospital. After her retirement, she continued to work at Elmwood Manor and served as RN consultant for Oakridge Home.

Patti was the friend, sister and parent that every person should aspire to be. She was truly a selfless person. She was active in the Seminole County Home and Community Extension Club, serving as the president of the Early Risers club for many years, where she was well known for her Blue Ribbons. Patti was a pillar of the Douglass High School Alumni Association, celebrating her 50th anniversary last year. She was a member of the Wewoka Cemetery Board. Patti was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she served as Eucharistic minister and music director. She lived the life of “What you have done for the least of these, you have done for me”.

Patti cherished her family and was the matriarch of a large and extended group. She was respected and honored and will be deeply missed by many.

Her parents, brothers Billie E. West and Robert Jones and a sister Peggy Peters preceded Patti in death. She is survived by her daughter Andrea Edwards and her son Christopher Bruner of Wewoka, son Steven Edwards and his wife Janice Chaffin and their children Carson and Catelyn of Shawnee; Chandra Miller and her husband Roland of Okmulgee, their daughter Kendra of Edmond, Oklahoma and their son Kyle of the home; son Mark Edwards of Moscow, Idaho and his children Kendra Mae Sloan Edwards of Wewoka and sons Dometrice and Jeffrey Edwards of Oklahoma City; brothers John (Rae) and Wiley (Kathleen) Jones; sisters Pauline Overstreet (Roy), W. Veronica Jones and Joy Rees all of Wewoka.
She also leaves to mourn her passing many nieces, nephews and their children, her former brothers- and sisters-in-law, her life-long friend Syiblean Spencer and a host of cousins, many friends and co-workers.

The Rosary will be recited at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka at 7:00 PM, Friday July 29th, Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 30th at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Holdenville, Fr Basil Keenan OSB, officiating assisted by Fr. Matthew Brown OSB and Fr. Benjamin Vima. Interment to follow at Westwood Cemetery Wewoka, Oklahoma.
