Funeral services with full military honors for lifetime Holdenville resident, Bill Cofer, are to be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the East Main Church of Christ in Holdenville with Alan Eck officiating. Bill will be laid to rest at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.

James Donnell “Bill” Cofer was born June 30, 1925 in Holdenville and he passed away in Holdenville on October 28, 2009 at the age of 84 years, three months, and twenty-eight days. Bill was a lifetime resident of Holdenville and a member of the East Main Church of Christ. He married Sarah Pauline Russell on March 16, 1946 in Holdenville and spent his life protecting the lives and liberties of the citizens of the United States. He retired Command Sergeant Major from the United States Army with service in World War II at the battle of Omaha Beach and Prisoner of War for thirty-seven months during the Korean War. Bill dedicated his life to caring for his family and his country.

His parents and ten brothers and sisters precede Bill in death.

Surviving are his wife of sixty-three years, Pauline Cofer; son, James Cofer and wife, Donna, of Holdenville; daughter, Donna Bowden and husband, John, of Stapleton, Georgia; three grandchildren: James Cofer III, Kellie James and husband, David; and Paula Osgood and husband, Jim; and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are a host of other family and friends.
