Mable Velma Johnston Adams went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 16, 2010. She was born August 13, 1912 north of Holdenville in Hughes County, OK to Sydney Carl and Tavie Almiranda (Hutchinson) Johnston.
Mable grew up in Hughes and Seminole County with her two sisters, two brothers and half brother. On October 16, 1931 she married Homer A. Adams. They lived and raised their two children, A.C. and Glenda, in and around the Butner Community of Seminole County. Mable loved being a wife, mother and homemaker. She was active in the Butner Home Demonstration Club and the Butner Baptist Church.
After Homer's death in 1966, she moved to the town of Wewoka. There she worked at Morgan's Mug and a local nursing home until she retired in 1973. She was active in the first Baptist Church and formed many friendships in the community.
In November 1998 Mable moved to Shawnee to be closer to her daughter, Glenda. While in Shawnee she was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Even though she was unable to attend services during the past several years, she continued to support the Church and maintained contact with her Sunday School Class.
Mable was preceded in death by her parents, husband Homer, brothers O.B. and Bill Johnston and half brother, Carmen Bond and sister Melba Underwood.
She is survived by son A.C. Adams and wife Ruth Ann. Daughter, Glenda Louise Pannell and husband John. Four grandchildren: Alisa Ann Adams Matthews and husband Larry of Wichita Falls, TX, Carla Ruth Adams Mackey and husband Doug of Cypress, TX, Robert Keith Pannell and wife Jennifer of Lawton, OK, and Lora Louise Sladovnik and husband Bart of Omaha, Nebraska. Six great grandchildren: Samantha Ann and Adam Kapp Mackey of Cypress, TX. Cassidy Lauren Pannell of Lawton, OK and Maxwell Sebastian and Cecila Louise (CeCe) Sladovnik of Omaha, NE. She is also survived by her younger sister, Mildred Norman of Gretna, Louisiana and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka at 11:00 a.m. July 21, 2010.
Burial will follow at Little Cemetery.
