Obituary for George Carter

George Carter, Jr. was born on Thursday, January 19, 1950 in Holdenville, OK with the assist of a mid-wife.

“Junior” was adopted at birth by the late George Carter, Sr. and Gertrude Armstead Carter. After the death of his mother, he was reared through his teenage years by his late aunt and uncle, Belle and Payne Thompson. He attended Holdenville Public Schools and graduated from HHS in May of 1970. He enlisted in the United States Army and served from June 15, 1970 to June 6, 1973. After military service, he lived in California before returning to his aunt’s home in Holdenville.

George resided for many years in Okmulgee, OK, in the Oklahoma City area and later in Shawnee, OK where he met the love of his life, Terri Bloxham. He and Terri were united in marriage on July 4, 2014. He was an active member of the Sharon Baptist Church in Shawnee. They had recently relocated to Wilburton, OK.

George’s life came to a close on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Latimer County General Hospital in Wilburton, Oklahoma.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Terri Carter, of Wilburton, and her children, Carl Ewing and Christopher Bloxham (Heather) of Shawnee. He is survived by his siblings, Irene Chrisman of Fontana, CA; Aaron Olden (Susanne) of Madison, WI; Lillie Williams of Tulsa, OK; Dana Olden of Salem, OR; and LaDonna Olden (Walter Holland) of Elk Grove, CA. He will be remembered fondly as “cuttin-brother” by Steve Thompson of Ardmore, OK; Marsha Thompson of Tulsa, OK; and Payne Thompson of Oklahoma City, OK. He is also survived by his in-laws, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service is scheduled for 11:00AM Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 301 East Main Street, Holdenville, Oklahoma. Pastor Clint Dawkins will officate the service. Interment will follow at the Buckner Family Cemetery in Holdenville. Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.
