Obituary for Joletta Stephens

Joletta Fern Peck Stephens was born March 18, 1936 in Atwood, OK to Henry Nole and Nola Mae Peck. They moved to Fontana, California for a period of time and then returned to Wewoka. She was Sophomore Queen at Wewoka High School in 1952 where she met her true love, Leo of 65 years. They went to Colorado Springs and were married on October 7, 1952. They moved to Pueblo, Colorado to start their life together. They began their family and had three children; Mark, Joni and Matt.

Joletta and Leo then moved to south San Francisco, California and lived there several years meeting life-long friends. During this time Joletta went back to school to receive her certificate of graduation for high school in 1971. She was so proud that her and her oldest son, Mark graduated the same year. In 1973, her and her friend Oneta Johnson started painting class and this started a life-long journey of painting. Her and a friend opened a business in Pueblo, Colorado calling it, "Strawberry Country" where they painted strawberries on everything from old milk cans to old pottery, spoons, pots and pans. These were ordered and sold all over the United States. Joletta started a painting class in Wewoka at Downtown Barber and Beauty where she was known as "The Sassy Artist" which indeed she was! She had people from all over the State of Oklahoma to take her class. She belonged to the Daisy Club for several years and for every event she would paint all the girls a season themed item. Joletta was a member of the Church of Christ in Wewoka. She was an avid reader and read her Bible daily along with several other books.

Joletta loved to travel and if invited she would go to Old Mexico and Louisiana. Her dream was to vacation all over the United States in motor home. She considered her best life accomplishment to be her family and loved ones whom she cherished. Her three children and grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and loving husband, were truly her life. She left this world leaving a lot of love and knowing she was loved by all.

She is preceded in death by Jimmy Peck, Henry Peck, Nola Peck, Ada Stephens, Leo Stephens Sr.
