Obituary for Marilyn Hodges

Marilyn “Dusty” Hodges, age 78, passed from this life on April 5, 2018, at home with her family by her side. Dusty was born June 30, 1939 to Flossie Belle and Roy Merrill Irvin in Gage, Oklahoma.

Preceding Dusty in death were Monroe Hodges, her spouse of nearly 60 years, her parents, and one brother, George Irvin. Dusty is survived by her two children, Jimmie Gentry and Irvin Hodges, both of Ada; grandchildren, Casey Gentry and wife Deidre, Heath Hodges, and Taylor Hodges, all of Ada; one brother, Danny Irvin of Ripley, Tennessee; and children of special friends, Jeff Dodson, Shaun Dodson Shows, Tenley Dodson and Ike Dodson, all of Florida; Laraine Cardin of Lakeland, Florida, Marcella Johnston of Drexel, Missouri, Deresa Gray of Ada, Stephanie Rich of Weatherford, Texas, Bo Leach of Oklahoma City, as well as Dixie and Lee Wheaton of Mounds, Oklahoma.

In her early years, Dusty attended school in Gage, Oklahoma but came to Stonewall for a period of time where she met Monroe Hodges. They married in Oklahoma City in 1958. She worked as a stay at home mother, raising her children and helping on the family ranch. In 1958, Dusty participated in the Wild West Show at the World’s Fair in Brussels, Belgium. She was an avid barrel racer, earning many awards and titles, including the 1972 United Rodeo Association Championship. Dusty enjoyed many things in life. She loved her family, friends, laughing, having fun, horse racing, and music. She will be greatly missed by the many friends and relatives who loved her.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caretakers of Dusty during the last months of her life. To Brenda Hawkins, Neidra Foley Young, and The McCortney’ s Hospice Staff, thank you for giving exceptional care to Dusty and for being an essential part of our family during this time. We cannot thank you enough for all you have done.

Honorary Pallbearers are Pat O’Neal, Henry Katz, Bill Montin, Jeff Sibble, Hank Morgan, and Ronnie Shells.

Services are Friday, April 13, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Elks Lodge of Ada, Oklahoma. Please send donations in lieu of flowers to the Cowboy Crisis Fund P.O. Box 243 Fittstown, OK 74842, per family request.
