Obituary for Virgil Irby Spencer

On June 11, 1965 a bundle of joy was born to Virgil Irby Spencer Jr. and Sybilean Smith Spencer. He became the first baby boy. He received his education in Wewoka, Oklahoma. After graduating from Wewoka High School in 1983, he later moved to Los Angeles, California for a number of years. There, he met and married Audrey Scates. Early in life, he accepted Christ at Friendship Baptist Church and later on moved his membership to St. Stephens Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Freddy Griffis. After returning to Oklahoma he became a member of St. Paul Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Reginald Woods Sr. until he departed this life on March 18, 2018. Virgil’s greatest love was God and then after that was the L. A. Lakers and the Dallas Cowboys. Virgil was loved by so many, he was a jokester and a clown, always wanting to make people laugh. His greatest joy was loving his mother, father, sisters, and grandmother.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, the late Virgil Irby Spencer Sr. and Ida Mae Spencer; his aunts, Mildred Alexander, Velma Edwards; and uncle, Earnest McElwee; aunt, Earnestine Wiggins.

Virgil departed this life on March 18, 2018 at his residence. Forever cherishing his memories are his loving, caring and devoted mother, Sybilean Spencer; father, Virgil Spencer Sr.; a loving grandmother, Mable Alexander; two loving sisters, Shelia (Ray) Spencer of Las Vegas, Tammy Spencer of Fallin, Missouri; three brothers, Michael Spencer of Seminole, Keith Spencer and Arlon Cooper both of Wewoka; beautiful aunt, Mary Smith of Wewoka, Sherry Robinson and Patricia Smith both of Oklahoma City; devoted uncle, Curtis (Evetta) Alexander of Wewoka, great-aunts, Rudgie Caldwell of Oklahoma City, Virginia Reynolds of Tulsa; special cousin, Jessalyn Smith; a very special loving, caring, and dear friend, Regina Huntley, and a host of other cousins, family and friends. A special godchild Kendra Huntley whom he loved very much.

Funeral service is scheduled for 11:00AM on Monday, March 26, 2018 at the New Life Church. Rev. Reginald Woods Sr. will officiate the service. Interment will follow the service at the Westwood Cemetery in Wewoka. Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka.
