Obituary for Lena Mae Bemo

Long time Wewoka resident, Lena Mae Bemo,79, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed from this life surrounded by her family on July 16, 2019 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on October 29, 1939 to the late Jenkie Thomas and Louise Roberts, and was raised by her late grandparents Chick and Nancy Roberts in the Nuyaka Indian Community.

Lena was a member of the Mucsogee (Creek) Nation and was of the baptist faith. Lena Mae married her best friend, Simeon "Dink" Bemo Jr. on August 27, 1960 at Spring Baptist Church in Sasakwa, Oklahoma. During her younger days you could find Lena Mae playing fastpitch softball and basketball and spent many summers keeping score for Dink's fastpitch softball teams. She also taught her children the art of beadwork and shared that talent with many others. She loved sports especially the Oklahoma Sooners from the early days of Steve Owens and before the OKC Thunder, she lived for Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.

Lena Mae's grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her a lot of pride playing sports throughout the years, from Kiwanis League Flag Football all the way to college fastpitch softball and couldn't brag on them enough.

Preceding Lena in death are her parents , husband, sister Rosella White, daughter-in-law Genelle Bemo, grandson Christopher Bemo.

Those left to cherish Lena's memories are her children Warren Lee Bemo of Sapulpa, OK, Luann Bear of Okmulgee, OK, Rhea Bearbow of Keys, OK, and Von Leigh "Skeet" Bemo of Okmulgee, Ok, five grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Honorary pall bearers will be Danny Cully, Roland Roberts, Raymond Lowe, Robbie Roberts, Frisco Yargee, Amon Yargee, Skipper Roberts, Tuffy Roberts, and Jeffery Osborn.

Pall bearers will be Chris Leaf, Robert Coffey, Ken Zachary, Opothle Yahola, Scott Lowe and Buster Lowe.

Wake service will be Friday, July 19, 2019 at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday July 20, 2019 at Spring Baptist Church in Sasakwa officiated by Jimsey Harjo and burial to follow at Spring Baptist Church Cemetery.
