Obituary for Paul Anton Loeffelholz

Paul Anton Loeffelholz went Home to be with the Lord on September 7, 2018 from Wewoka, Oklahoma. He was born in Norman on June 26, 1930 to Barney and Mary Josephine (Rieger) Loeffelholz. He grew up in Norman graduating from St. Joseph Catholic High School. Afterward, he joined the United States Air Force, where he was trained as a barber. This would become his profession throughout his life. He could fix anything and worked as a electrician at OU when he was young. This would teach him the skills to work on clock and make repairs to most anything.
During an evening out in Norman, Paul met the love of his life, Ms. Ella Jean Bogan who would become his life partner and best friend. Paul and Jean married on October 14, 1950 in Norman. While out for a drive one afternoon, Paul loves to tell of stopping in Wewoka and falling in love with the community. The couple moved to Wewoka in 1954 where they purchased the local barber shop and later had four children, Paula, Carl, Joe and Mary Ann. How many kids did Paul give their first hair cut? He was known for adapting to the child to ensure the perfect cut whether that be in the chair or on the floor. If you wanted the best flat top you went to Paul. Paul served as Boy Scout Leader while his boys were young. Getting a haircut, solutions to problems, or just an ear to listen or a shoulder to lean on, Paul was always willing to help others.
Paul would talk about his friends he made throughout his life and say he was rich because of those friendships, but just ask anyone who knew Paul and they would say the same about him. Paul never received any distinguished awards of honor formerly, but that is who he was. He never wanted or needed recognition, he would humbly go about his business of loving, caring, including, accepting, helping and encouraging others. His honors did not come with great ceremonies, but rather with every individual who ever met him. He was honored by each person who talk about him saying he was a “good man”, “so kind”, “true friend”, “one of a kind”, “this town will not be the same without him”.
In his free time away from being the OG of the Liar’s Club and Elmer’s Group, Paul would build and fly his own radio controlled airplanes. He also owned and flew a Cessna 150. He enjoyed not only flying but the comradery he had with his fellow pilots. He enjoyed sharing his workshop and love flying with his friend, Mickey LaValley. He enjoyed going square dancing with Jean, playing golf and holding his self-proclaimed title of Wahoo King. Riding his motorcycle (on the streets or sidewalks) was his passion. He said you are never too old to ride so his children surprised him with a new Harley for his 84th birthday! Did he ever love that bike, riding it up to the end and loving the wind in his face, claiming it was a breathing treatment. He also enjoyed water skiing, once even skiing with his son Carl, grandson Erik and great-grandson Carter all at the same time. He was a devoted member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wewoka where he would serve the church in any possible. His love for his family and spending time with them meant everything to him. He loved to tell everyone when the kids and grandkids were coming in or he was going to see them. He was so proud of each of them.

After his “retirement” from cutting hair, Paul worked for Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka. He loved visiting and comforting the families and friends who had lost loved ones.
